Why Spain

Architecture, food, flamenco, and coastline — Spain delivers on every front.

Spain rewards the traveler who understands that it is not one country but many. Barcelona and Madrid feel like different civilisations. Andalucía — Seville, Granada, Córdoba — is a world shaped by eight centuries of Moorish culture. The Basque Country operates on its own cultural and culinary frequency. Getting Spain right means choosing the right combination for your interests and giving each place enough time.

Lexi Blade designs Spain itineraries from Florence — inside the continent, with personal relationships to the hotels and guides that make the difference. Taryn Harrison adds depth on the Iberian Peninsula from years of planning both Portugal and Spain together. Between them, there is no corner of Spain they haven’t covered.

Barcelona & the Catalan Coast
Gaudí’s Sagrada Família and Park Güell, the Gothic Quarter’s medieval streets, La Boqueria, and the Barceloneta waterfront — Barcelona is one of the great European city experiences, and it takes time to do properly.

Castle Stays & Boutique Hotels
The Alhambra in Granada, Seville’s Real Alcázar, the Great Mosque of Córdoba — Andalucía’s Moorish heritage is one of the most extraordinary architectural and cultural legacies in the world. Best experienced slowly and with context.

Food, Tapas & Regional Wine
San Sebastián has more Michelin stars per capita than anywhere on earth. Madrid’s traditional tavernas have served the same dishes for centuries. Valencia invented paella. Juniper builds the food experiences into every Spain itinerary as a core component, not an afterthought.

Great European travel is an investment. Most clients spend $5,000–$15,000 per person for a complete custom Spain itinerary — trips start at $2,500 and your specialist will walk through exactly what that looks like for yours.

Sample Itinerary

A Taste of Spain — 8 Days

Barcelona · Valencia · Madrid

This is a sample itinerary — for inspiration only. Every Juniper trip is designed from scratch around you. Many clients love an itinerary very similar to this one — if something here resonates, your specialist can build something just like it (or better) specifically for your travel style, dates, and group.

1
Arrive in Barcelona
Barcelona
+
Welcome to Spain! Upon arrival a private driver meets you at El Prat Airport and transfers you to your accommodation. Spend the remainder of the day exploring at your leisure — the Gothic Quarter rewards an unhurried first evening on foot. Let the energy of one of Europe’s great cities announce itself slowly.

Overnight: Barcelona
2
Barcelona — Food, Drinks & the City
Gothic Quarter · La Boqueria · Barceloneta
+
After breakfast, a full day to explore what Barcelona does best. There are numerous options to choose from for today’s food and drink experience — from a sangria workshop and beach picnic on the Barceloneta waterfront to a guided tasting tour through La Boqueria and the Eixample’s finest bars. Your specialist will help you choose the perfect experience based on your interests. The Gothic Quarter’s medieval lanes, the Passeig de Gràcia, and the waterfront promenade fill whatever time remains.

Overnight: Barcelona
3
Barcelona — Gaudí & Modernisme
Sagrada Família · Park Güell · Eixample
+
A day dedicated to the architectural genius that makes Barcelona unique in the world. The Sagrada Família — Gaudí’s unfinished cathedral, under construction for over 140 years — demands a visit with pre-arranged skip-the-line access. Park Güell’s mosaic terraces and Mediterranean views follow. Casa Batlló or Casa Milà in the afternoon, then the Passeig de Gràcia for a final Modernista immersion before dinner.

Overnight: Barcelona
4
Barcelona to Valencia
Valencia
+
After breakfast, a private driver takes you south along the Mediterranean coast to Valencia — a journey of roughly three hours that arrives in a city with a completely different character from Barcelona. Valencia is Spain at its most local: the Silk Exchange, the Central Market, the City of Arts and Sciences, and the Malvarrosa beach district. Settle into your hotel, explore the city at your own pace this afternoon, and let the change of pace land.

Overnight: Valencia
5
Valencia — Paella, Art & the City
Central Market · City of Arts · Old Town
+
Valencia invented paella — this is the city to understand it properly. A paella cooking class with a local chef using produce from the Central Market is one of the most authentic Spanish experiences available. Alternatively, a countryside wine tour through the Valencia DO vineyards offers a completely different perspective on the region. The City of Arts and Sciences — Santiago Calatrava’s futuristic complex along the old Turia riverbed — is extraordinary at any time of day. An Art & Sciences food and drink tour is another excellent way to take in both in one afternoon. Your specialist will shape the day around your interests.

Overnight: Valencia
6
Valencia to Madrid
Madrid
+
A private driver or high-speed AVE train takes you north to Madrid — Spain’s capital, and a city that operates on its own extraordinary schedule. Madrileños eat dinner at 10pm and consider midnight early. The city’s energy after dark is one of the genuine pleasures of Spanish travel. Settle into your hotel, take your bearings in the Salamanca or Malasaña neighborhood, and let the capital introduce itself at your own pace.

Overnight: Madrid
7
Madrid — Tapas, Prado & Flamenco
Retiro · La Latina · Museo del Prado
+
Take a day to see and taste your way through Madrid. A segway and tapas tour is one of the best ways to cover the city’s key landmarks while eating — the Gran Vía, the Retiro Park, the Plaza Mayor, and the traditional tabernas of La Latina, all with a guide who knows exactly which bar to stop at. The Museo del Prado — Velázquez, Goya, El Greco — deserves a visit in the afternoon with pre-arranged access. The evening is yours: tapas and flamenco at a tablao, or a final crawl through the streets your specialist recommends.

Overnight: Madrid
8
Depart for Home
Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport
+
After breakfast, a private driver takes you to Madrid-Barajas Airport for your return flight. Your Juniper specialist remains reachable throughout departure day — and your in-app itinerary stays accessible wherever you need it next. Get ready to say farewell to Spain.

Common Questions

Spain travel questions

Spring (April–June) and early autumn (September–October) are the ideal times to visit most of Spain. July and August are extremely hot inland and crowded on the coast. Barcelona stays more temperate in summer. Seville and Andalucía are spectacular in spring when the temperatures are warm without being extreme.

Most Juniper Spain itineraries run 8–12 days. Eight days works well for Barcelona, Valencia, and Madrid. Ten to twelve days allows you to add Seville, Granada, or San Sebastián. Spain’s high-speed rail network makes most inter-city connections 2–3 hours and genuinely comfortable.

Yes — Spain offers extraordinary honeymoon settings across very different landscapes. Granada’s Alhambra and Generalife gardens, the whitewashed villages of Andalucía, San Sebastián’s Belle Époque architecture and Michelin-starred dining, and Mallorca’s clifftop fincas. Lexi Blade and Taryn Harrison design Spain honeymoons regularly.

Spain’s high-speed AVE train network is excellent and covers most major city-to-city routes — Barcelona to Madrid in 2.5 hours, Madrid to Seville in 2.5 hours, Madrid to Valencia in 1.5 hours. For the Andalucía region, a private driver between Seville, Granada, and Córdoba makes for a more flexible and atmospheric journey.

Spanish food and wine are among the most varied and regionally distinct in Europe. Barcelona has extraordinary avant-garde dining. San Sebastián has more Michelin stars per capita than anywhere in the world. Madrid’s traditional tavernas have served the same dishes for centuries. Valencia invented paella. Andalucía’s sherry and jamón ibérico are in a class of their own. Juniper builds food experiences into every Spain itinerary as a core component.
